GREENMAX Polystyrene Compactor Helps the Melbourne Market to Recycle Waste Polystyrene Packaging

The Melbourne Market is Australia's largest wholesale vegetable and fruit market. In 2015, it was relocated from Footscray Road to the EPPing area 22 kilometers from the city center, covering an area of 70 hectares.

Before the relocation, the waste polystyrene packaging used to protect the fruits and vegetables during transportation generated by the Melbourne Market will be sent to a nearby recycling company that provides polystyrene recycling solutions. After moving to the EPPing area, the original plan did not work, since the bulky volume and light weight of discarded polystyrene packaging added more storage and transportation costs to the entire recycling process.

After a series of market research, the Melbourne Market finally decided to enter into a cooperative relationship with the new recycling company IKON, who has 40+ years’ experience in providing tailored cleaning and facilities management services.

IKON learned about GREENMAX at IFAT 2014 and expressed its interest in the polystyrene recycling business. In 2015, IKON purchased 3 GREENMAX polystyrene compactors for foam recycling projects in the Melbourne market and two other markets.

IKON established a polystyrene recycling center in the Melbourne market and prepared 8 recycling boxes for tenants on the market to deliver discarded polystyrene packagings. All waste foam packaging produced on the Melbourne market will be collected regularly in recycling centers for processing, and compressed eps blocks will be sold to GREENMAX to make an extra profit.

Both IKON and the Melbourne Market are satisfied with the GREENMAX polystyrene recycling machine and have established a stable strategic partnership with GREENMAX. It is believed that with the joint efforts of everyone, more waste polystyrene foam in Australia can be recycled and reused, thereby helping to save the world's energy and resources.
